The Low King, Aknis Thunderheart, was the brother of the High King, Iknis Thunderheart. He ruled the city of Loknir in the south of Zar until it was destroyed by undead forces.

Description[]

In life, the Low King was a bearded dwarf, much given to a love of food and drink, but a capable ruler in his own right. Fighting against the perceived image of Loknir being the 'lesser' city, he ensured that the southern capital was in fact very highly regarded by many for its culture and quality of life.

Since being turned, the Low King has grown to three times his original height; he has become a behemoth, a threat to all those around him, and has been imprisoned,or left, in the ruins of Loknir. There, he attacks all who come near.

Mutation[]

The Low King was mutated by Gel-Druzad, the Lich, when the undead assaulted Loknir. He became a hideous mutant with tentacles instead of fingers, many times larger than he should be and with boy proportions similar to a gorilla. He demonstrated extreme athletic and acrobatic skill, as well as a high tolerance to damage. He was killed in the ruins of Loknir by the party.

The Undead[]

It was revealed, through evidence found in Loknir, that the Low King was the one who had let the Undead take hold. He had sacrificed his own daughter to attempt to summon a lesser demon, but due to the weakening of the astral bonds and the sundering of the trees, a fragment of Orcus came through instead. The result was the half-destruction of Loknir and the conversion of the entire city into the Undead horde. The Low King was driven mad by this. He was working with Loma, the Treasurer for the High King, although Loma was purely working for gold. According to Justine LaCona, the Low King was possibly working more out of jealousy of his brother's station and power.
